Academy Award–winning actress Nicole Kidman has been appointed Goodwill Ambassador of UNIFEM in January 2006. As UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador, her efforts will be geared toward raising awareness on the infringement of women’s human rights around the world. A particular focus will lie on putting a spotlight on violence against women (VAW), probably the most pervasive human rights violation that affects as many as one in three women. read more

How Ms. Kidman Helps

  • Raises awareness about violations of women's human rights, with a focus on violence against women.
  • Visits grantees of the UN Trust Fund to Eliminate Violence against Women, to raise the visibility of local efforts to combat VAW.

Ms. Kidman's Missions and Other Activities

“I am committed to educating myself further by travelling with Noeleen to meet with women, hear their stories and understand first-hand the issues they face. ... I am especially interested in helping to give visibility to the pandemic of violence against women. UNIFEM manages a UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women, and as I travel, I will be visiting many of the projects to see the effective strategies that have been put in place.”
